Ultimate Street Challenge will air on RTE Two at 5.30pm on Mondays and Fridays from Monday 5 December until Friday 23 December.

The show features ten 16 year olds (five male, five female) from around the country who will live together in Dublin for three weeks – away from the creature comforts of home and battle it out to become the Ultimate Street Challenge Champion. The ten were selected after a nationwide search to find suitable participants for the show.

In each episode, the ten challengers will work with personal trainer Karl Henry to build their mental strength, physical fitness and team spirit as well as developing a sense of personal achievement. The teens also take part in strenuous training sessions in urban settings such as Grand Canal Dock’s Chimney Park, Spencer Dock, Point Village, the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, HSQ, Smithfield Square and the beach at Blackrock.

At the end of each episode, the Challengers will face an Ultimate Street Challenge set by former world champion super bantamweight boxer Bernard Dunne. Challenges include abseiling from the roof of the Aviva Stadium, a paddleboard race at Grand Canal Dock, a 2km sprint along the Great South Wall and climbing the towering Wheel of Dublin.

This recording of 6 nights of live concerts from Dublin’s Point theatre was produced and recorded by Tyrone Productions in 1997.

The series was commissioned by PBS in association with RTE had won the Bronze D’or at the GOLDEN ROSE FESTIVAL in Montreux in 1998.

These 6 nights showcased the very best of Ireland’s musical talent.

Gael Force began with a virtuoso performance by world star Sinead O’Connor and ended with the quintessentially Celtic sound of Clannad and Brian Kennedy. Through the week audiences were thrilled by the Riverdance Dance Company with lead dancers Joanne Doyle and Colm O’Sé, Sharon Shannon, Frances Black, The Afro Celt Sound System, Nomos and Altan. The Chieftains were joined by Asley MacIsaac, Carlos Nunez and Canadian Family – Leahy. De Dannan teamed up with Mary Black, Maura O’Connell, Eleanor Shanley and Tommy Fleming for favourites such as Maura O’Connell’s arrangement of Maggie, Mary Black singing Song for Ireland and a magnificent performance of Hard Times with Tommy Fleming and Eleanor Shanley joining Maura O’Connell and Mary Black. Audiences were entertained to a full night of Christy Moore at his absolute best.

This series of concerts was released on DVD/CD and for broadcast.
