Adhering to the successful reality format, ‘Football’s Next Star’, 10 young Irish boys (whittled from nationwide callout for entries) live together and be challenged, physically and emotionally, over 4 weeks, on and off the pitch, in the hope that one of them will win the coveted place at Celtic’s Youth Academy. On the field they will be put through their paces by Celtic’s top coaches.
Each episode, these coaches make the tough but necessary decision to end one boys Celtic dream as they ‘cut’ a young player from the team, ultimately leaving only 3 to battle it out in the final episode. Off the field there are personal issues to deal with, as 10 young lads cope with the fallout of living away from friends and family for the first time, inevitably clashing with some of their new housemates.
Throughout the competition ‘spot prizes’ are awarded to our players, as they succeed not only as footballers but as housemates. These ‘treats’ are designed to give the boys a taste of the lifestyle that awaits a world class footballer – remember this prize goes beyond sport, it’s also about football celebrity. Today’s footballers rank on a par with film and pop stars. So as well as fulfilling every young boys dream about playing with a world class football club, this is also one Irish lad’s chance to grab the big dream – stardom.
